Every fall wardrobe needs a shoe refresh—or at least a little shoe daydreaming. This year, mine is becoming a very Crunchy Boujee Living mix of affordable look-for-less finds, tried-and-loved favorites, and a few dreamy shoes floating around in my fashionista imagination.

This season, I think I’m buying the affordable dupes: an open-toe clog and a Birkenstock-inspired clog. I already own the cognac Big Buckle Arizonas and a taupe plastic pair, so yes, I clearly have a type. But I love finding that look for less option that gives an outfit the same easy, elevated feeling without asking the budget to perform gymnastics.

And because we can’t live in clogs alone—although I would be willing to try—I’m also considering adding another suede Blondo bootie. I already own and adore my Blondo Chelsea boots, but I haven’t decided which style should join them. That is where you come in, my fashionista friends.

Five silhouettes, endless outfit possibilities. AI-styled inspiration; designs are illustrative, not exact product photos.

1. The Open-Toe Clog: The Perfect In-Between Shoe

An open-toe clog is one of those shoes that makes sense when the calendar says fall but the weather is still behaving like summer. It has the warm suede look, the chunky wood-inspired sole, and enough personality to make jeans and a simple tee feel styled.

Two ways I would style it:

  • Early-fall coffee date: faded wide-leg jeans, a cream ribbed tank, an open dusty-rose cardigan, and a small crescent bag. The clog brings the outfit a little retro personality.
  • A dressier afternoon: a Quince 100% Washable Satin Midi Skirt in Vintage Pink, a soft grey tee tucked at the waist, and delicate jewelry. I love the idea of that substantial sole with a swishy skirt.

The finishing detail: I would let full-length flares fall over the clog, with a little of the toe showing. Try the jeans on with the actual shoes—the hem should clear the ground when you walk.

The neutral tan shade also plays beautifully with the muted denim, dusty rose, soft taupe, mushroom, and gentle cream tones I naturally reach for as a Soft Summer. As always, color analysis is just a guide—wear what makes you feel fabulous.

This is one of the affordable dupes I’m planning to try this season. Once I’ve actually worn it, I’ll report back honestly on the comfort, fit, and quality.

2. My Birkenstock Story—and Why I’m Choosing the Dupe

I love my Birkenstocks, and I love a good dupe. Both can have a place in my closet—boujee on a budget is about choosing what works for my style and my real life.

My gold Birkenstocks came with me to Costa Rica and somehow survived tropical rainstorms and all our adventures. They are still alive, but let’s just say they have earned a gentler retirement. That trip convinced me I needed a pair made for wet, messy days, so I added the taupe plastic Birkenstocks to my real-life rotation.

I also bought the cognac Big Buckle Arizonas—the elevated, slightly boujee pair that makes an easy outfit feel instantly more polished. The taupe pair is my more casual choice, while the cognac pair brings the pretty. I still follow the care guidance for each pair.

The Birkenstock Boston suede clogs are on my wish list too. I haven’t personally tried them, but I love that relaxed shape with denim and cozy layers. After adding two pairs of Birks over the summer, though, I’m excited to try a more affordable Birkenstock-inspired clog for fall.

Dupes can be fabulous in their own right! I’m choosing this one because I want that easy clog look at a price that fits this season’s shopping budget. It doesn’t have to be the original to become a favorite—it needs to work for me.

My cozy-day formula: I wear a cozy sage Quince alpaca sweater, and I would pair it with full-length wide-leg jeans and these clogs. Add a crescent bag and my favorite necklace for an easy outfit that still feels like me. A small front tuck, if the sweater allows, gives the waist a little definition.

This pair is on my purchase list, so I can’t speak to its comfort, fit, or quality yet. Once I’ve worn it, I’ll share the honest scoop. For now, I’m excited about the styling possibilities—and the look for less.

3. Flats, Slingbacks & Pointed Mules: A Little Polish

Not every fall outfit needs a chunky sole. A lattice flat adds texture to simple jeans, while a pointed mule or slingback gives a relaxed outfit a dressier finish. These are styling ideas and shopping possibilities, not pairs I’m claiming to have worn and reviewed.

For the lattice flat: full-length straight-leg jeans, a fine-knit lavender sweater, and a rose-quartz bag. I would choose a jean length that leaves a little of the shoe visible and clears the ground with a flat sole.

For the pointed mule or slingback: charcoal trousers, a dusty-rose top, and a cropped cardigan for dinner. I would choose a trouser hem that reveals some of the pointed toe rather than swallowing the shoe. Add your favorite necklace and you’re dressed—no complicated styling assignment required.

4. My Tried-and-Loved Blondo Chelsea Boots

If I’m naming a true fall favorite, my Blondo Chelsea boots get the personal-pick spotlight. These were my first pair from the brand, and now I completely understand the love. They are genuinely comfortable, stylish, and they have held up beautifully through both rain and snow. That has been my experience with my own pair. Check the exact model’s weather protection and care instructions before buying—we love a multitasker, but every boot has its limits.

The chunky Chelsea silhouette balances flares and wide-leg denim and adds a little edge to soft sweaters and feminine layers. They are polished without feeling precious—the kind of boot I can actually live in. After loving this pair so much, I’m officially a Blondo fan and ready to add another pair. Now I’m just deciding which style should be next.

An outfit I would build around these: dark flared jeans, a fitted cream knit, and a cropped suede jacket. The shorter jacket keeps the waist visible above the wider hem. For a softer mood, try a sweater dress with opaque tights and the chunky boots.

Watch the hem: with full-length flares or wide-leg jeans, choose an opening that falls smoothly over the boot shaft. Check that the denim doesn’t catch on the boot or drag under the heel when you walk.

5. On Cloud 6 Sneakers: The Casual Outfit Finisher

My On Cloud 6 sneakers belong in this edit too, because a real-life shoe wardrobe needs a sneaker option. I love the styling contrast of a sporty shoe with soft knits and denim—it keeps a fall outfit relaxed.

My off-duty outfit formula: soft grey wide-leg jeans, a cream tee, a lavender cardigan, and a crescent bag. Repeat a color from your sneakers somewhere in the outfit to make the sporty detail feel intentional.

Joggers and matching sets are much more my everyday style. I would pair the sneakers with soft grey joggers and a matching sweatshirt, then add a crescent bag and my favorite necklace. With a matching knit set, let the jogger cuff sit above the sneaker so the fabric doesn’t bunch. With flares or wide-leg denim, check the hem with the sneakers on; jeans that work with your heeled clogs may drag with a lower shoe.

I bought the Quince 100% Washable Silk Skirt in Vintage Pink to recreate this outfit: a soft grey sweater, a taupe shoulder bag, and white sneakers. I would also wear my grey On Clouds for a sportier twist—the grey ties back to the sweater while the silk brings a little boujee. A small front tuck gives the waist definition without losing that cozy feeling.

Fashionista Friends, Help Me Choose My Next Blondo

I haven’t tested either of these next-pair contenders yet. Here is my current dilemma: do I add the Blondo Alida Waterproof Suede Bootie or the Blondo Hylia Waterproof Suede Bootie?

Option One: The Alida

The Alida is the sleeker, dressier choice. Its dark suede and refined ankle shape would give me something different from my chunky Chelsea boots. I see it with flares, dark denim, a satin skirt, or a sweater dress. This is the option my fashion-stylist brain says adds the most versatility.

Option Two: The Hylia

The Hylia has a warmer, more relaxed suede look with a sturdy heel. It feels casual, earthy, and very easy to picture with denim, cozy knits, and fall layers. It may blend more naturally with my everyday wardrobe—but does it overlap too much with the easygoing shoes I already own?

My vote is currently leaning Alida, because it fills the dressier ankle-boot gap instead of repeating the chunky Chelsea lane. But I want your vote: Alida or Hylia? Email me your vote—I want to hear which one you would choose.

The Christmas Dream-Shoe Corner

And then there are the shoes that live in the dream closet. The ones we admire, save, revisit, and maybe manifest with a little sparkle.

Mine? Gucci clogs. Completely necessary? Debatable. Fabulous? Obviously. The affordable dupes are my realistic plan for this season; the Gucci pair is the one I’m manifesting Santa bringing me for Christmas. Santa, if you’re reading, I’ve been very stylish this year.

I love mixing realistic purchases with aspirational style because getting dressed should still feel fun. You do not need the designer version to create the mood, but sometimes the dream piece helps you identify what you actually love—the shape, texture, color, or attitude—and then you can find your own version at the price that feels right.

Fall Shoe Edit FAQ

How many pairs of shoes do I need for a fall capsule?

There is no magic number. I like enough variety to cover everyday casual outfits, weather, dressier moments and the silhouettes I actually wear. Start with the gaps in your own closet rather than somebody else’s checklist.

How do I choose shoes for wide-leg or flared jeans?

Try the jeans on with the exact shoes. The hem should clear the ground and fall cleanly over the shoe without catching on the shaft or disappearing underneath your heel.

Do I need designer shoes to create an elevated outfit?

No. The silhouette, proportion, material and how the shoe works with the rest of the outfit matter more than the label. A dream piece can be inspiration without becoming a requirement.

My Fall Shoe Philosophy

The best fall shoe wardrobe is not the one with the most pairs. It is the one that gives you enough variety to dress your real life:

  • an easy transitional shoe
  • a casual everyday clog
  • a weather-friendly boot
  • a dressier flat or ankle boot
  • an everyday sneaker
  • and one little dream, because fashion should never become too sensible

Whether you choose the affordable dupe, invest in the forever favorite, or simply collect inspiration for later, the goal is the same: buy thoughtfully, wear repeatedly, and choose the shoes that make you excited to get dressed.
